Dr. Katie McLuckie, DC –  Chiropractor

Dr. Katie joined Zock Family Chiropractic in May 2021. She is originally from the greater Pittsburgh area and graduated from South Side High School in Hookstown, PA. She completed her undergraduate studies in Biology at The University of Pittsburgh in 2017. She then went on to earn her doctorate of chiropractic from D’Youville College in Buffalo, NY in 2021. Dr. Katie got introduced to the field of chiropractic when she found herself dealing with chronic headaches that were so bad, they were affecting her school work and day-to-day life. Chiropractic care helped her to manage her headaches and get back to living a headache-free life. Once she saw the impact chiropractic care had on her life, she wanted to help others in that same way. When Dr. Katie isn’t adjusting patients, she loves to spend time with her husband and their dog, Finn. She also enjoys traveling, golfing, cooking, and spending time with her family.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is your training?2021-07-19T13:21:13-05:00

After obtaining a four year Bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of Pittsburgh, Dr. Zock attended NYCC where she completed 221 credits to earn a doctorate in chiropractic (DC).

What is a subluxation?2021-07-19T13:20:57-05:00

In simple terms, a subluxation is when a vertebra has lost its normal position. It can occur from physical, chemical, and mental stressors. Once one or more spinal vertebrae move out of position, it creates stress on nearby nerves. This prevents the body from functioning with ease. Our goal if you have subluxation is to remove or correct any vertebra out of position to eliminate any interference to the nervous system and improve spinal function.

How safe is chiropractic care?2021-07-19T13:20:40-05:00

Chiropractic is widely recognized as one of the safest non-drug, noninvasive forms of health care available. Chiropractors use hands-on spinal manipulation and other alternative treatments. Manipulation is used to restore mobility to joints restricted by tissue injury caused by a traumatic event. The theory is that proper alignment of the body’s musculoskeletal structure will enable the body to heal itself without surgery or medication.

Any adjustment made is safe when it’s performed by someone trained and licensed to deliver care. With Dr. Zock’s extensive education, you are in good hands, literally!

Who should not use a chiropractor?2021-07-19T13:20:23-05:00

80% of the population will suffer from back pain or neck pain throughout their life. Most of these people would benefit from chiropractic care.

Anyone with osteoporosis, (thinning of bones), should avoid a chiropractor. Since a chiropractor works with manipulating the spine, any person who has osteoporosis requires other attention compared to care a chiropractor can provide.

If you are unsure if you can/should see a chiropractor, simply consult with a chiropractor. Chiropractors are the best professionals to talk to if you want to know whether your condition can benefit from chiropractic care.

How does Chiropractic work?2021-07-19T13:20:04-05:00

Chiropractors treat conditions related to your body’s structure. Our goal is to relieve pain and improve function. Compared to prescribing drugs or doing surgery, we adjust or manipulate body parts to get them in the right position. Chiropractic care is based on the idea that when your body is in proper alignment, you have a better chance of healing yourself. Chiropractic improves function of the musculoskeletal system by restoring motion in joints of the spine.  Adjustments to hypomobile joints alleviates pain and muscle tightness, improves range of motion, and allows injured tissues to heal

How do I know my back is out?2021-07-19T13:19:44-05:00

A thrown out back can result from physical activity such as lifting anything heavy or a sudden twist. Symptoms include:

  • Muscle spasms when at rest or active
  • Lower back pain
  • Stiffness in the lower back
  • Limited range of motion in the back
  • Inability to maintain normal posture
What types of treatments do you do?2021-07-19T13:19:26-05:00

At Zock’s, most treatments are manual (diversified) adjustments and muscle work (myofascial release and trigger point therapy). Dr. Zock also uses an activator, muscle stim, ultrasound, kinesio tape, and flexion distraction as needed. We also provide sports rehabilitation to help patients get back as soon as possible to their passion.

Will I need x-rays?2021-07-19T13:18:59-05:00

X-rays are not performed at Zock Family Chiropractic. Dr. Zock and staff will refer out as needed.

How do you work with other medical professionals?2021-07-19T12:36:48-05:00

Doctors of chiropractic are trained to diagnose health care problems and refer out as needed. Dr. Zock often refers to primary care physicians for issues that are not musculoskeletal in nature and refer to orthopedists for further evaluation of musculoskeletal injuries.

Are all the patients treated the same way?2021-07-19T09:59:09-05:00

Of course not!

Each patient is given an individual treatment plan based on their symptoms and response to treatment. All of our patients have unique bodies that we give special attention to each.
