WHAT WE TREAT

Neck pain isn’t just how it is now

You’ve probably been told neck pain is part of desk work, screens, and getting older — so you’ve learned to live with it. But persistent neck pain usually has a specific, treatable source: joints that have stopped moving properly, muscles compensating for posture, or a nerve under pressure. We find the source and treat it — not just the ache.

Text Neck (Tech Neck)

Forward-head posture from phones, tablets, and screens that overloads the cervical spine — producing stiffness, aching, and upper-back tension.

Cervical Muscle Strain

Overstretched or overworked neck muscles from posture, sleep position, or sudden movement — causing localized pain and reduced range of motion.

Upper Cross Syndrome

A postural imbalance — tight chest and upper-trap muscles, weak deep neck flexors — that pulls the head forward and strains the neck and shoulders.

Cervicogenic Headaches

Headaches that originate in the neck, when tension or joint dysfunction in the cervical spine refers pain into the head and behind the eyes.

Cervical Facet Dysfunction

Inflammation or stiffness in the small joints of the neck — causing localized pain that worsens when you turn or tilt your head.

Pinched Nerve

Compression of a nerve root in the neck — producing pain, numbness, or tingling that radiates into the shoulder, arm, or hand.

HOW CHIROPRACTIC HELPS

How chiropractic care addresses neck pain

Chiropractic care restores normal movement to the joints of the neck and reduces the nerve pressure and muscle tension that drives most neck pain. The goal is not symptom management — it is correcting the underlying structural problem so your body can heal. Dr. Zock and Dr. Lauren evaluate your posture, movement restrictions, and history before any adjustment is made.

  • Restores movement to restricted cervical joints
  • Reduces pressure on compressed nerves
  • Relieves upper-trap and suboccipital tension
  • Addresses the posture patterns driving the pain
  • Non-invasive — no medication, no surgery
  • No program commitments or package requirements

YOUR FIRST VISIT

What to expect when you come in

Most first visits are 30–45 minutes. Follow-up visits are typically 15 minutes. There are no required package purchases — you receive the care you need and return when it helps.

1

Initial Examination

Dr. Zock or Dr. Lauren reviews your history, evaluates your movement patterns, and identifies the source of your pain — not just the location.

2

Diagnosis + Care Plan

A specific care plan is built around your condition, your lifestyle, and your goals. You’ll know what’s being treated and why before any adjustment is made.

3

Treatment

Soft tissue work comes first, followed by spinal adjustment. Laser therapy, ultrasound, or electrical stimulation may be added when clinically appropriate.

4

Progress Check

Your response to care is evaluated regularly. The plan adjusts as you improve — there is no fixed program that continues past the point it’s helping you.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Questions about back pain care

Straightforward answers to what patients ask most before their first visit for back pain.

Most patients with acute neck pain notice meaningful improvement within 3 to 6 visits. Chronic or posture-related conditions may take longer. Dr. Zock and Dr. Lauren evaluate your progress regularly and adjust the plan based on how you’re responding — there is no fixed timeline or required number of visits.

Yes, for most patients. Your provider evaluates the cause and severity of your neck pain before any treatment, and selects techniques appropriate for your condition — including gentle, low-force methods when needed. Chiropractic care is non-invasive and involves no medication or surgery. If imaging or a specialist referral is needed, that will be part of the recommendation.

Often, yes. When headaches originate from tension or joint dysfunction in the cervical spine — sometimes called cervicogenic headaches — addressing the neck can reduce their frequency and intensity. Dr. Zock or Dr. Lauren will evaluate whether your headaches are neck-related before recommending care, and will refer you if another cause is suspected.

For many patients — yes. Laser therapy is most effective when inflammation is a significant component, such as with a pinched nerve or chronic muscle tension. It is a separate, purchasable service recommended by Dr. Zock or Dr. Lauren when clinically appropriate for your specific condition.

Yes. Zock Family Chiropractic accepts UPMC, Aetna, Highmark Blue Cross  and most major insurance plans cover chiropractic care for neck pain. Contact the office to confirm your specific coverage and any visit limits under your plan before your first appointment.
